Where's everybody been? It's dead. I'm really excited to meet some of you all this fall. I'm anticipating college although I will miss Big Stone Gap.

You know my mother brought up the suggestion to Berea College. She and I looked into it. The more she and I looked into it. The more it really came to interest me. I mean it's a Christian college. They have a full tuition scholarship. They have the major I'm looking for. Respect. Seems well behaved. My cousin actually graduated from there in 2004 I do believe. He says there weren't any parties. I won't be involved in the parties. But the more I learned about Berea the more I liked it. And it isn't too terribly far from home. Yeah three and a half hours IS a long time but you all get what I am saying. At the campus tour I went on in November i learned that the people there were very friendly. Was great.

I learned that this was God's will for me.

Where is everybody on this community?

Hey, I'm a second semester freshman. I plan on transferring out next Fall, so I won't be here when you come, but I hope you like it here. If you're looking for a small place with no parties --- then yep, you can have it at Berea! There are some parties, but nothing to amount to much. What is considered a "big" party here is a really small party anywhere else. The distance is tough. I live 6 hours away, and not being able to have a car, I can only come home on holidays. You may be able, however, to get home some weekends if you life three and a half hours away. That's not a terrible distance.

BUt anyhow, best of luck to ya

I can't wait until this fall. I've been in love with Berea for over a year now, everything about it is perfect!

If either of you are coming for a visit before the end of this semester, I'd be willing to meet up with you and show you around-- introduce you to some of the students. I'll be honest, this isn't my favorite place in the world, but I can acknowledge that there are many good things about Berea. The distance has been a huge problem for me, because I'm very close to my family and friends, but it just takes a little while to adjust.

I live about 3 1/2 hours. I think I'll like it. Being away from home for a long time will take some getting used to. Actually I believe one guy from my grade will be attending Berea as well. He's in the second group that has to apply. I may have actually met some of you all on election day. I was with the educational talent search which was on a tour of the campus. Great dorms looks like. We ate at the pizzeria, italian restaurant too. Was good.

I think the new gymnasium looks cool. Indoor track. I do believe the tour guide told me you had to take a swimming class? Correct me and forgive me if I am wrong but I think that would be cool.

Yes, swimming requirement. Every student has to be able to jump in and tread deep water for 5 minutes (technique required), and swim the pool--1/2 on the back, 1/2 on front, any style. If you can swim and float, you'll be ok.

I just wanted to comment about your "Christian College" assertion. Don't think that it means that Berea is going to be a big church service, alright? I attended Berea UMC while I attended Berea (highly recommend, they are wonderful people), but where Berea College has Christian influence, there are also influences of everything else in the world. It's a very unique place in the world--I've been to Europe and New Zealand thanks to Berea, and never found another place like it... except in a place called Te Anau.
