okay, so i was just wondering how religious berea is, because i'm not very religious. at all.
also, how is the environment, conservative or liberal?
and, last question, is it a really homophobic environment or is it pretty open-minded to different sexualities?

i know this community is basically dead, but hopefully someone will reply anyway.

You really haven't been there, have you? I graduated from Berea in May 2006.

Berea is religious-oriented, not affiliated. The Pagan Club on campus is even sponsored by one of the campus ministers. However, as a Christian, myself, I do recommend that you try out several of the churches in the area--it's a great way to get off campus for a few hours each week and meet new people, besides getting a little spiritual nourishment.

At the last Presidential election, the entire county was red for Republican except the city of Berea, which was a blue blob for Democrat. The faculty is mostly Dems, but the students are mostly Republican, which is quite interesting. As for liberal and conservative, you will find that it's right in the middle on the average, preferring "progressive" as the adjective.

Homophobic? In 2004 (I think), Berea had the largest per capita ACE League in the state of Kentucky. Judge not lest ye be judged is the major motto on campus, so in order to keep the peace and enjoy my college experience, I kept my thoughts to myself about my opinions on that issue. I tried my best to love everyone, even if I think they're going to hell in the end. You'll find that most people at Berea have that approach.

Hope this helps you out about making your decision to attend, which I assume this is about. Berea's a very special place in this world--they don't call it "the Berea Bubble" for nothin'.

Haha, thank you. I got accepted at the beginning of this month.

No, I took a tour and it seemed really open-minded and everything. My best friend's sister-in-law goes there, and she's pretty alternative/liberal/whatever, and we got to sit in on one of her classes.

I guess I just needed more reassurance or something. :)

I think I've just been psyching myself out about it, like I saw how diverse Berea is and everything. I think when they sent me one letter it had multiple quotes from the bible and I got a little uneasy (even though I've grown up in a diverse household--mom's wiccan, sister's christian, brother's atheist--i guess i'm close-minded in my own ways). They weren't even the scary bible quotes, haha.
